The Raddusch Slavic Fort
The Slavic Fort is situated in the Federal State of Brandenburg, ca.
100 km south of Berlin. You can get here on the motorway A 15 Berlin –
Forst, exit Boblitz or Vetschau, or by train from Berlin in the direction
of Cottbus.
The RADDUSCH SLAVIC FORT is situated in the settlement area of the Slavic
tribe of the Lusizi. The ethnic minority of the Sorbs/Wends living here
today are the descendants of the Lusizi. Erected in the style of the Slavic
fortification that was built here more than 1000 years ago, the interior
of today's RADDUSCH SLAVIC FORT is a modern building housing an exhibition,
function rooms, a restaurant and a shop. You can also have an audio-visual
guided tour in Polish and English. The entrance fee is 4.50 Euro. There
are special pedagogical activities to introduce in particular the children
into historic-archaeological topics. The exhibition “Archaeology in Lower
Lusatia” displays finds and findings of the decades of archaeological
excavations before the mining excavators started their work in the opencast
mines in Lower Lusatia.
The surroundings of the fort provide relevant attractions for playing,
picnic, resting or for information, if you like.
A “time path” leads around the fort and provides information that can
be extended in the exhibition.
In close vicinity to the fort a big lake is being developed from a former
opencast mine which can be used for various leisure activities in a few
years.
The village of Raddusch is a part of the town of Vetschau and an ideal
starting point for touristic tours into the Spreeewald - a huge lagoon
area which was formed by the Ice Age. From here you can go and enjoy our
unspoiled nature by boat or canoe for hours on end. A horse-drawn coach
or carriage tour into the Spreewald region can also be recommended. Tourist
groups can have their own daily programmes compiled.
